The Last Word

A timely last word in the weeks before Christmas should, somehow, convey, in a nondenominational manner, heartfelt best wishes for the season.  It's not that easy to do.  For example, a typical greeting these days is: “Best wishes for a safe and happy Holiday Season,” which is androgynous enough, but fails to generate much on the emotional side.   Along the same lines, I recall a Christmas card received from a suppler by a radio station I once worked at which said, quite simply, “Thank you for your business!”  It got a lot of laughs around the company for its lack of pretentiousness, and, since laughter is an emotional response, I guess, in a way, it was pretty effective.  Surely there are better phrases to acknowledge appreciation and give it a seasonal tie, without getting religious.

TV host and comedian Jay Leno picked up on the denominational dilemma faced by companies and governments in today’s society by referring to a Supreme Court ruling:  “The Supreme Court has ruled that they cannot have a nativity scene in Washington, D.C. This wasn't for any religious reasons. They couldn't find three wise men and a virgin.”

Many quotes on the meaning of Christmas, again, nondenominational, deal with making ourselves better to, in turn, make our shared experience better.  For example, the following words of wisdom, which come from humorist/author Oren Arnold, can be applied to our dealings with colleagues at work and throughout our extended enterprises, to our relations with friends and family:  “Don't expect too much of Christmas Day. You can't crowd into it any arrears of unselfishness and kindliness that may have accrued during the past twelve months.” Translation: try to exclude the holiday spirit year-round.

We at Adexa hope that your Holiday Season is one that inspires ongoing personal and professional success in the coming year.  And, oh yeah, thank you for your business!
